It was another case of police attempted murder of yet another black man. Police estimate the pre-trial victim of police electrocution fell about 15 feet onto a concrete embankment beside I-70, landing on his right side after the 1½-hour standoff. Family members on the scene were distraught. They blamed the police department for preventing them to speak with McDuffy while he was on the bridge. The department says the suicidal man, 45-year-old Phillip Lee McDuffy of Columbia, was threatening to jump from the Providence Road pedestrian overpass. After an hour and a half of negotiations, McDuffy moved towards the south side of the bridge away from I-70. Officers deployed a Taser when he was in a spot on the bridge that would prevent injury if he fell.
Captain Zim Schwartze says that deployment did not work.

Thanks, George. When torture and extrajudcial executions are going on under the color of law, it's got to be exposed, even if it takes painstaking documentation to remind us all how prevalent it is. Thankfully, even as the local media is careful to tell the local police's bullshit side of the story, yet they are documenting the atrocities with film footage, which ultimately helps us build a movement against it.
he was suicidal and the police prevented him from killing himself by getting splattered all over I-70 (and dude came away with a few broken bones)... i'd say, "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!"

Admit it. This situation moves you. Otherwise, the better alternative would have just been to shoot the suicidal man and put him of his misery ( and do the same thing with all suicidal jumper situations), both because it would save on charity care at the hospital and it would serve as a deterrent for other people intending to pretend(?)/experiment to want to commit suicide on overpasses.
If society wanted to be as blithely callous as you suggest, the policy would simply be to shoot suicidal people on sight. Again, that would save society a lot of money because tasers and taser charges are very exensive, while bullets are very cheap.

you have a suicidal man, who's family told the police that he may be armed with a gun, threatening to kill himself over an interstate overpass. i see no excess in trying to subdue the guy with a non-lethal taser shot. by looking at the news video, had the first one stuck, he would've been subdued in a safe area... it was only after he ran towards the overpass and was tased again, did he fall, resulting in injury. and you label this a "pre-trial electrocution"? this guy was a danger to himself and the public.
as i said in my response, the dude isn't dead... right? the public was not injured... right? no police officers were injured... right? to my way of thinking... MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Plez, this man was a member of the public and so the public was harmed.
My title was not sarcastic, but was factual. The police electrocuted this man, before he had any trial on the facts involved, and then he fell off a bridge, even though regulations say not to electrocute a man if it might cause him to have a fall that would be injurious to him.
It's clear to me based on your response that you just don't have any compassion for this man as a human being, and so it's alright for the police to treat him worse than they would treat a dog under the same circumstances. In your lack of compassion, you show a similarity, unfortunately, to the police and the society that allow this to occur day after day.
And your lack of compassion is, perhaps, somewhat understandable because it is based on your acceptance of a very common storyline that police ALWAYS offer when they try try to kill a Black man. "Who knows? He could have had a gun!" And so they justify killing ANY Black at any time.
If you or I engaged in the same behavior as these police did, we would rightfully be charged with attempted murder, and the charge would be increased to murder if the man died.
Well doesn't it seem strange to you that, when contacted by the police, a family would offer sua sponte that their family member might be armed (without knowing), even though saying this would likely end in the family member's death.
In all likelihood, the "fact" that the family said he might be armed was either an outright lie that the police supplied to the media (the media didn't say they independently confirmed it), or it resulted from the police asking a question to the family like, "Has he ever had a gun?" "OK, then he MIGHT be armed."
In fact, the police had a chance to observe this man over a number of minutes and when he was tased he did not respond by trying to shoot the police (a normal response for someone who is armed and thinking of using a gun), but responded by running (a typical response for someone who is unarmed and has no intention, in any case, of shooting at police).
Well, remember this, bro. Anytime you are driving down the highway minding your own business, you "might be armed" and so the police, according to your reasoning, have every right to kill you even if their own observation doesn't provide any reason to believe that you actually ARE armed, and even if you are not making any threatening moves toward police.
Have police do unto others as you would have police do unto you.
