Does the NAACP Defend Black Male Rapists Instead of Black Female and Child Rape Victims? Why?

Gina McCaughley of What About Our Daughters? AfroSpear blog says that she was working on advocating for the victims in the Dunbar Village rape case, a Black woman and child, but the NAACP ignored her calls for aid, she says, responding to her that the NAACP's mission does not include addressing Black on Black crime.

However, when the prosecution of the alleged rapists began, the NAACP DID begin advocating for the alleged rapists, apparently because defending Black accused in the criminal justice system IS part of the NAACP mission.

These facts, as presented by one side - Gina McCaughley - presents a number of difficult questions as to the wisdom and efficacy of the NAACP. Can the NAACP promote "the advancement" of Black people if they indiscriminately defend those who victimize us, just because those victimizers are Black and are being prosecuted by a white criminal justice system?

Is the NAACP's interest in this case to secure equal justice for the accuseds and, if so, what does equal justice entail and require in this case?

When the NAACP gets involved in a case with Black female and minor victims and Black male accuseds, what does equal justice require that the NAACP do for the Black female and minor victims, if anything?

Doesn't a policy that defends rape accuseds from the "system" but does not defend victims from the perpetrators necessarily mean that the NAACP will help mostly help guilty men but not innocent women and children in a case like this one?

Is defending those accused of the most hideous rapes, who may well be guilty, the most effective way to advocate for equal justice for ALL Blacks to receive equal justice in the criminal justice system?

Let's be clear: Everyone, particularly the accuseds, deserves a defense when they are accused of a crime, because many accuseds are not guilty and many Black accuseds who ARE guilty are punished far more harshly than white accuseds would be under similar circumstances. That's why every defendant has a right to a competent and zealous defense from his defense lawyers.

However, every defendant does not have an automatic right to the limited resources of Black civic action groups like the NAACP. Such groups should be able to explain how defending individuals furthers their PROGRAMMATIC mission. I'd certainly like to understand better how defending THESE particular accuseds furthers the programmatic mission of the NAACP.

I admit that I haven't researched this case, and all I can do is pose the questions that occur to me, hoping that my readers can offer more information.
